EPL: Everton open Hill Dickinson stadium with 2-0 win over Brighton

Everton got their first taste of success at Hill Dickinson Stadium as they overcame Brighton 2-0, thanks to a Jordan Pickford penalty save and a standout debut from Jack Grealish.

David Moyes’ side bounced back from their disappointing opening-day defeat to Leeds United, with Iliman Ndiaye and James Garner finding the net to secure a morale-boosting win.

Ndiaye, who famously scored the final goal at Goodison Park last season, continued his fine form by converting Grealish’s precise cross midway through the first half to put the Toffees ahead.

Despite Brighton hitting the woodwork twice and missing clear chances through Danny Welbeck and Matt O’Riley, Garner doubled Everton’s advantage in the 52nd minute with a composed finish.

The victory was sealed when Pickford denied Welbeck from the penalty spot in the 77th minute.

Grealish Shines on Everton Debut

Grealish made an instant impact, contributing to both goals on his home debut. The Manchester City loanee has now recorded two or more assists in a Premier League match for just the third time in his career, matching his total output over the past two league seasons combined.

Against Brighton, Grealish led Everton with five touches inside the opposition box, 23 passes in the final third, and created three scoring chances.

Pickford also enjoyed a memorable afternoon, making his eighth Premier League penalty save. Among English goalkeepers, only David James (13), Rob Green (9), and Ben Foster (9) have more in the top flight.

Everton’s win not only marks a positive start at their new home but also sets the tone for a Premier League campaign that promises excitement under Moyes.
