The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a 27-year-old man, Umar Adamu-Umar, for allegedly transporting cannabis valued at more than N10 million into Kano State.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Saturday by the spokesperson of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, Mr. Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari.

According to him, operatives of the Kiru Area Command intercepted the suspect on August 6 along the Zaria–Kano highway.

Adamu-Umar, who hails from Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State, was allegedly caught with 19 parcels of Cannabis Sativa weighing nine kilograms.

“The suspect confessed to his involvement in the illegal drug trade,” Muhammad-Maigatari said. “He has been on our watch list and under surveillance by the command for some time.”

The agency noted that the seizure was a significant breakthrough in its fight against illicit drug trafficking in the state.

“This interception dealt a major financial blow to the trafficking network as it denied traffickers substantial revenue, disrupted their supply chain, and reduced funds available for further criminal activities,” the spokesperson explained.

He added that removing such quantities from circulation would help shield vulnerable communities from the “social and economic harms associated with narcotics.”

Muhammad-Maigatari further assured that the Kano Command, under the leadership of Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, would intensify intelligence-driven patrols and operations aimed at crippling drug trafficking syndicates in the state.
