The Lagos State Police Command says it has recovered a Toyota Sienna minivan packed with bags of suspected cannabis and other exhibits after the driver abandoned the vehicle during a stop-and-search operation in Ojo.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ben Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement posted on the command’s official X handle on Friday.
According to Hundeyin, the incident occurred on August 15, 2025, when operatives on routine patrol flagged down an ash-coloured Toyota Sienna for a check.
“In the process of requesting the driver’s identification and vehicle documents, the driver suddenly bolted, taking along the ignition key and abandoning the car,” the statement read.
The police spokesperson added that a thorough search of the abandoned vehicle led to the discovery of two large bags of substances suspected to be cannabis, one Army jungle hat, and two ATM cards.
The recovered items, including the vehicle, have since been handed over to the Special Squad 2 at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, for further investigation.
Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the vigilance of the Ojo Division patrol team.
“Such swift action is a testament to our commitment to intelligence-led policing. The command will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the fleeing suspect is tracked down and brought to justice,” Jimoh assured.
He further urged Lagos residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
The police noted that investigations into the case are ongoing.
