Two Nigerian clubs, Rivers United and Enyimba FC, have earned places in the 2025 CAF top 50 club rankings, standing tall among Africa’s elite.
The list, released on Friday, assesses the performances of teams across the continent based on their results in CAF inter-club competitions over recent seasons.
It takes into account points gained from appearances, wins, and progression in tournaments such as the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly once again underline their dominance, taking the number one spot with an impressive 78 points.
The record African champions continue to set the standard in club football on the continent, having maintained remarkable consistency in both domestic and continental competitions.
Close behind are Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa with 62 points, and Tunisia’s Espérance in third place with 57 points, both of whom have been regular threats in the Champions League in recent years.
For Nigeria, Rivers United lead the way with a 19th-place ranking, securing 14 points, while Enyimba FC, Africa’s two-time Champions League winners, sit in joint 27th place with 7 points.
Their positions reflect Nigeria’s steady but challenging journey in regaining dominance in African football, as the nation’s clubs face fierce competition from North and Southern African sides that have heavily invested in squad depth and infrastructure.
