Delta gives keke, okada riders two-week deadline to pay N7,500 levy

The Delta State Government has issued a stern warning to commercial tricycle (Keke) and motorcycle (Okada) operators to pay the approved levies for rider registration or risk having their vehicles seized.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the Director of Public Communication and Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Harold Ojji, the government said it has extended a two-week grace period for defaulters to comply.

The deadline expires on August 18, 2025.

“It is hereby announced for the information of the public, particularly motorcycle and tricycle riders, that the Delta State Government has granted another two weeks’ grace to enable them acquire the approved aprons, stickers, and rider’s cards as part of the state government’s security profiling process,” the statement read.

According to the ministry, the registration package includes a rider’s card, apron, emblem, and stickers, all to be obtained at a subsidized fee of N7,500. These are available at the offices of the Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle Operators’ Association (COMTOA) across the state.

Ojji emphasized that failure to comply with the directive within the stipulated time would attract penalties.

“Defaulters of this directive would have their motorcycles or tricycles impounded by the Directorate of Transport Vehicle Inspection Officers, security agents, and the COMTOA Task Force at the end of the grace period,” he said.

The initiative, according to the state government, is part of a broader effort to enhance security and accountability within the transport sector.

Operators are urged to visit COMTOA offices in their respective areas to regularize their documentation before the August 18 deadline.
