Man nabbed for allegedly killing woman in Lagos hotel

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man, Amos Daniel, over the suspected murder of a woman, believed to be his girlfriend, in a hotel located in the Ayobo area of Lagos State.

The horrifying event took place on Thursday, July 18, 2025, sending shockwaves through the hotel after loud, unsettling noises from one of the rooms raised alarm among staff and guests.

Eyewitnesses said Daniel checked into the hotel around 5 p.m. alongside two other men. Not long after, a woman, later identified as the victim, joined the group.

However, by 10 p.m., strange and alarming sounds began emanating from the room, prompting concern from other guests.

“I had been in the hotel since Wednesday. That evening, I heard a strange noise from the next room. Someone alerted a security officer, and when no one responded to the knock, the door was opened with a spare key. That’s when we saw a woman lying motionless in a pool of blood,” said one of the guests, identified simply as Adio.

The grim discovery sent staff and lodgers into a frenzy, leading to a frantic search for the perpetrators.

Two of the suspects managed to flee the scene, but Daniel was discovered hiding within the premises. He was restrained by hotel employees and guests before police arrived.

A hotel staff member who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “When we noticed two had escaped, we knew the third might still be nearby. During the search, we saw him running and managed to catch him. He was beaten by some angry guests before the police arrived.”

The source further disclosed that during the confrontation, Daniel allegedly admitted that he and his accomplices had brought the woman to the hotel with the intent of killing her for ritual purposes.

Preliminary police investigations identified the deceased as Endurance, a native of Akwa Ibom State.

Confirming the development, Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that the hotel management reported the incident to the Ayobo Police Station the following day.

“The hotel manager stated that at about 1 p.m. on Thursday, one Amos Daniel, whose address remains unknown, booked a room in the facility and checked in at 5 p.m. with two other individuals,” Hundeyin said.

“At approximately 8 p.m., while refuelling the hotel’s generator, the manager heard a strange noise from the room. Upon checking, he discovered the lifeless body of a female adult, with multiple injuries suspected to have been inflicted by a sharp object.”

Hundeyin confirmed that while the suspects attempted to flee, the hotel manager was able to apprehend Daniel.

A dagger believed to have been used in the attack reportedly dropped from the suspect during the arrest.

Detectives later recovered several items believed to belong to the suspect, including a UTC axe, a machete, a cutlass, jack knives, scissors, a laptop, a local sponge, and a pair of military-style jungle boots.

Hundeyin added that the victim suffered multiple stab wounds to the abdomen, head, and ribs. Her body has been taken to the Yaba General Hospital mortuary for autopsy, as investigations continue.
