Nollywood actor Jim Iyke stirred emotions and conversations online on Saturday after sharing a candid and unconventional birthday tribute to fellow actor and longtime friend Kate Henshaw.
In a heartfelt yet controversial message posted on Instagram, Iyke expressed admiration, regret, and humor, laced with raw language and deep reflections on their past relationship.
The post, while surprising to many fans, also highlighted the strong bond the two actors have shared for decades.
“F**k you, on behalf of my 23-year-old self, for treating me like your baby brother when you knew all that time I wanted to hit that,” the actor wrote, reminiscing about the early 2000s when they met as rising stars in Nollywood.
He recalled being broke and green in the industry while Kate supported him with money for food and transport, even offering audition tips that helped shape his career.
“You were kind to me when I had nothing. You fed me. You guided me. You made sure I never missed a casting,” Iyke shared.
Jim Iyke went further, imagining a different outcome if Kate had allowed him into her life romantically at the time.
“If you had let me experiment with my seed, we would have had a 25-year-old child by now,” he joked.
In a mix of admiration and frustration, he lauded Kate’s timeless beauty, stating that many young women are undergoing body enhancements like BBL and Botox in attempts to compete with her natural appearance.
“F**k you on behalf of these young girls killing themselves and doing way too much trying to figure out how to keep up with you,” he said, describing her as “a phenomenal creature and a force of nature.”
The actor also admitted personal failings, saying when Kate eventually gave him a chance, he was not in the right headspace to make it work. “I was too wild, too restless. I got caught up in fame and foolishness,” he confessed.
He noted that Kate eventually moved on, “married a white guy,” and distanced herself, but said he still feels immense respect and affection for her. “I still light up inside every time I see you,” he wrote.
Jim Iyke concluded the message by clarifying his use of profanity: “This ‘f**k you’ is just because we’re Nigerians. We insult those we love.”
He ended with a heartfelt declaration: “Happy birthday. Your wild boy loves you!”
The post, while raising eyebrows for its bluntness, has also drawn admiration for its honesty, showcasing a unique blend of humor, nostalgia, and deep emotional connection between two of Nollywood’s most iconic actors.
