Chelsea’s standout performer, Cole Palmer, has responded to critics who wrote off the Blues ahead of their clash with Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup final.
Palmer delivered a dazzling display at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, netting twice and setting up Joao Pedro as Chelsea cruised to a commanding 3-0 victory over the French giants.
Speaking to DAZN after the triumph, the England international praised manager Enzo Maresca for masterminding the win with a precise tactical approach.
“Even better, because obviously everyone doubted us before the game,” Palmer said.
“I like finals and it happened again. The gaffer put a great game plan out.
“He knew where the space was going to be. I just had to repay him and score some goals.
“He’s building something special. We are going in the right direction.”
Palmer’s efforts throughout the tournament earned him the Player of the Tournament accolade, capping off a memorable campaign for the Chelsea midfielder.
