Palmer fit, ready for Chelsea’s crucial clash with Arsenal

Cole Palmer is set to return to Chelsea’s starting lineup for this weekend’s top-of-the-table clash against Premier League leaders Arsenal, marking his first appearance after spending more than two months out with a groin injury and a fractured toe.

The 23-year-old has been unavailable since September 20 but was cleared by Enzo Maresca during his pre-match press briefing, confirming the forward is ready to start at Stamford Bridge.

A victory for second-placed Chelsea would narrow the gap to Arsenal to just three points.

Palmer, who finished last season as Chelsea’s leading Premier League scorer with 15 goals, has featured only four times across all competitions this term but has still managed to score twice.

His return is seen as a major boost, with Maresca describing him as a key figure whose influence will grow as he regains full match sharpness.

Chelsea have also been buoyed by the emergence of 18-year-old Brazilian sensation Estevao, who delivered a dazzling solo goal in the midweek Champions League win over Barcelona.

The possibility of pairing Palmer with the young winger has generated excitement among supporters and within the squad, though Maresca stressed the need for tactical balance depending on the opposition.

Reflecting on Chelsea’s development, the manager noted that the squad has grown significantly over the past year through shared experiences and challenges.

While encouraged by the team’s progress, he maintained that it is too early to label the Blues as title contenders, emphasising that their true position will be clearer by March or April.
