Spanish La Liga side, Valencia are reportedly in talks to sign Nigerian international Frank Onyeka from Premier League club Brentford.

Onyeka, who had limited minutes at Brentford last season, spent time on loan with German Bundesliga outfit Augsburg. He has since returned to Brentford for pre-season preparations.

However, according to Mike McGrath of the Daily Telegraph, the six-time La Liga champions are pushing to bring the Super Eagles midfielder to Spain during the current transfer window.

“Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka subject of a bid from Valencia, with clubs continuing discussions over the 27y-old Nigeria international,” McGrath posted on X.

While at Augsburg, Onyeka featured in 31 matches, contributing one assist during the 2023/24 season.

After sitting out Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, Onyeka made his return to the national team for the Unity Cup held in May.

He was also part of the squad that played out a 1-1 draw with Russia in an international friendly in early June.

The energetic midfielder’s European journey began in January 2016 when he moved from Nigerian side FC Ebedei to Danish club FC Midtjylland.

He made an immediate impact, debuting for the first team on 20 September 2017 in a Danish Cup match against Greve Fodbold, where he not only featured but also found the back of the net in a dominant 7–0 win.

He earned his Danish Superliga debut a few months later, featuring in the 2017–18 season clash with AC Horsens on 9 February 2018. Onyeka made that match count too, scoring in the 2–0 victory.

He followed up with another goal on 18 February against league leaders FC Copenhagen, operating from the right wing and helping Midtjylland to a 3–1 win.

His impressive performances caught the attention of head coach Jess Thorup, who lauded his tactical adaptability and footballing maturity.

Onyeka went on to make his UEFA Champions League debut in Midtjylland’s qualifier against Astana on 24 July 2018.

He eventually sealed a move to newly-promoted Brentford on 20 July 2021 for an undisclosed fee. Onyeka made his Premier League debut on 13 August, starting in a historic 2–0 win over Arsenal, Brentford’s first ever match in the English top flight.
