Chelsea forward, João Félix, has expressed a strong desire to return to his roots at Benfica, the club where his football journey began.
The 25-year-old Portuguese star, who joined Chelsea permanently last summer after an initial loan stint, has yet to make a lasting impact at Stamford Bridge.
His struggles prompted a temporary switch to AC Milan for the latter half of the 2024/25 campaign. Now back at Chelsea, Félix was noticeably excluded from the squad currently participating in the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
In a conversation with TribalFootball, Félix made his affection for Benfica clear.
“The whole world knows that Benfica is my favourite team. It’s my home. One day I will return,” he said.
“I don’t know if it’s now or in a few years, but if it were now I would be very happy. There are two options: either I stay in England or I return to Benfica.”
Despite his eagerness, a return to the Portuguese giants may not be straightforward.
His current wage demands and potential transfer fee are seen as major stumbling blocks, meaning a significant pay cut could be necessary to make the move happen.
