The Federal Government has announced a delay in the burial of renowned Nigerian businessman, Aminu Dantata, who passed away on Saturday in the United Arab Emirates.
Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, explained that the postponement stems from administrative processes required by Saudi Arabian authorities before a body can be transported into the country for burial.
Speaking with the BBC on Monday, Idris said, “The body arrived late in Madinah, and there are strict protocols the Saudi government has in place for such situations. The necessary documentation is currently being handled between the Saudi government and the deceased’s family.”
He further clarified that the body is still in the UAE and will be flown to Saudi Arabia once all required paperwork is completed.
“The Nigerian Embassy in Saudi Arabia is actively working with the family to ensure all procedures are fulfilled.
Funeral arrangements have already been finalized and are simply awaiting the arrival of the body,” the Minister added.
Dantata, a widely respected industrialist and philanthropist, was scheduled to be buried in Saudi Arabia in accordance with Islamic rites.
His passing has drawn tributes from across the country, with many lauding his contributions to Nigeria’s business landscape and humanitarian efforts.
