Osimhen makes history after Galatasaray win Super Lig title

Super Eagles and Galatasaray forward, Victor Osimhen, etched his name into the club’s history books on Sunday, netting a goal in their commanding 3-0 victory over Kayserispor at Rams Park.

The Nigerian international found the back of the net in the 26th minute, taking his tally to 25 goals in 29 league games this season, solidifying his position at the top of the Turkish Super Lig Golden Boot standings.

Per Opta, Osimhen becomes only the third foreign player in Galatasaray’s history to hit 25 goals in a single Super Lig campaign, joining the elite ranks of Bafetimbi Gomis (2017-18) and Mauro Icardi (2023-24).

The Super Eagles striker currently leads the scoring chart in the Turkish top flight, holding a four-goal advantage over Krzysztof Piątek, who is second with 21 goals.

On loan from Napoli, the 26-year-old has racked up an impressive 36 goals and eight assists in 40 appearances across all competitions for the Istanbul giants this season.

Sunday’s triumph over Kayserispor also sealed the league title for Galatasaray, delighting their home supporters as they celebrated in style.

With just two fixtures left, Galatasaray hold a commanding eight-point cushion at the summit of the Turkish Super Lig, amassing 89 points to Fenerbahçe’s 81.
