The Niger State Police Command has apprehended five individuals in connection with a phone robbery and the illegal trade of stolen devices.
In a statement released by the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the arrest occurred on May 9, 2025, when officers from the Maje Division intercepted one Richard Maiungwan Dikko, aged 27, at the Kwanba Antenna area in Suleja.
He was caught in possession of a Bajaj motorcycle.
Abiodun stated, “Preliminary findings revealed that Richard snatched a phone from a shop attendant while pretending to make a purchase. A search of Richard yielded five Android phones, including the stolen one.”
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of four other individuals suspected of being receivers of the stolen phones. They were identified as David Raymond (29), Emmanuel Alfred (33), Izochukwu Raymond (31), and Tunchi Amos (28).
Abiodun further revealed that law enforcement officials discovered eleven Samsung phones and fourteen additional mobile devices in the shop owned by Emmanuel Alfred, located in Maraba.
These items were found without any documentation to verify their ownership.
“David Raymond confessed to purchasing over 30 phones from Richard. Two other motorcycles were also recovered,” Abiodun added.
All five suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
