A Permanent Member of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board, Abiodun Ajayi, has resigned from his appointment to take up a political role as Director-General of Senator Iyabo Obasanjo’s 2027 senatorial campaign.
Ajayi, a former Chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government, announced his resignation in a letter dated August 31, 2026, addressed to Governor Dapo Abiodun.
In the letter, he expressed appreciation to the governor for the opportunity to serve in the state government, particularly his contribution to the development of basic education.
Ajayi explained that his decision was driven by his new political responsibilities, saying he did not want to combine his government appointment with a role that could create conflicting obligations.
He said, “My decision to resign has been carefully considered and is principally borne out of my emerging political responsibilities.”
The former council chairman added that voluntarily leaving the SUBEB position was the most appropriate step to avoid having to balance competing responsibilities.
Speaking by telephone, Ajayi confirmed that he had resigned but denied speculation that the decision was connected to plans to leave the All Progressives Congress.
“I resigned my appointment with SUBEB about three days ago. I am grateful to the governor for giving me the opportunity to serve, but it is time for me to leave,” he said.
Ajayi also confirmed that he would be heading Obasanjo’s campaign, noting that he previously served as Director-General when she contested the Ogun governorship under the APC.
He said, “I was the DG of Iyabo Obasanjo during her gubernatorial ambition under APC, and she has equally appointed me to lead her Senate campaign.”
Ajayi said he remained appreciative of Governor Abiodun for giving him the opportunity to serve in his administration.
Obasanjo is the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for Ogun Central Senatorial District in the 2027 election.
