An 18-year-old boy in Anambra State has reportedly impregnated 10 girls within the span of five months, including his master’s daughter and a salesgirl, drawing public concern and prompting calls for intervention.
The startling revelation was made by the Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, during a live session on social media on Wednesday.
According to Obinabo, the young man had been sent to learn a trade under an apprenticeship arrangement, but just three months into his training, he had already impregnated two girls in the household — his master’s daughter and the shop’s salesgirl.
“He was sent to learn a trade at the age of 18. After just three months, he impregnated his master’s daughter and the salesgirl. He was then sent away,” the commissioner said.
Obinabo went on to explain that after being dismissed from his apprenticeship, the boy returned to his village, where the situation escalated dramatically.
“This matter is beyond me, that’s why I want advice from the public. Is it spiritual?” she asked during the session, expressing disbelief at the growing number of pregnancies linked to the teenager.
She added that the boy’s mother had come to her office seeking help, worried about her son’s behaviour and the implications for their family.
“Anytime I see a girl coming towards our house nowadays, my heart would jump. Please, I need help,” the distraught mother reportedly told Obinabo.
In her interaction with the boy, Obinabo said she asked how he managed to convince so many girls to engage with him. His response, she said, was both simple and troubling.
“I asked the boy what magic he uses. He said he just tells the girls he loves them and wants to marry them when he becomes rich,” she revealed.
Although the identities of the boy, his mother, and their village were not disclosed, the commissioner emphasised the seriousness of the situation, considering the young man’s age and the number of affected girls.
“This issue is serious, considering the boy’s age and the number of girls involved,” she said, appealing to the public for advice and assistance in finding a lasting solution.
