Tinubu returns to Abuja after Brazil visit

Pesident Bola Tinubu on Wednesday concluded his high-level state visit to Brazil and departed Brasília for Abuja, aiming to further strengthen bilateral relations between Nigeria and Brazil.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the presidential jet left Brasília International Airport Air Force Base around 12:57 a.m. (local time).

Amb. Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, and Amb. Carlos José Areias Moreno Garcete, Brazil’s Ambassador to Nigeria, were present to bid farewell to the Nigerian president.

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, alongside other government officials, also attended the brief departure ceremony, which featured a guard of honour led by Col. Cel Nicolas.

President Tinubu arrived in Brasília in the early hours of Monday, August 25, for the strategic diplomatic engagement.

Upon arrival, he received full military honours and immediately met with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and senior Brazilian officials.

During the visit, the two leaders held private talks and oversaw the signing of five Memoranda of Understanding covering aviation, foreign affairs, science and technology, and agriculture, sectors central to Nigeria’s development agenda.

President Tinubu also engaged with the Director-General of Brazil’s Securities and Exchange Commission and the Board of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc.

He praised the Nigerian market’s performance, calling it “a clear sign of investor confidence in his administration’s reforms.”

In addition, the president held meetings aimed at expanding Nigeria-Brazil collaboration in trade, education, and innovation.

He also connected with members of the Nigerian diaspora in Brazil, urging them to “contribute actively to nation-building.”
