14-year-old girl arrested after UK school stabbing

A 14-year-old girl has been arrested after two students and a staff member were injured in a stabbing incident at a school in Manchester, police in the United Kingdom confirmed on Tuesday.

Greater Manchester Police said the teenager was taken into custody on suspicion of assault following the attack at Co-op Academy, located north of Manchester city centre.

Authorities said the victims included a 14-year-old girl, a 14-year-old boy and a 27-year-old male staff member, all of whom suffered injuries believed to be stab wounds.

“All were taken to hospital, however injuries are thankfully not believed to be serious, and all are stable at this time,” police said following the incident at the Co-op Academy north of central Manchester.

The school was placed under lockdown shortly after the attack, while emergency responders and police units surrounded the premises, according to local media reports.

“Officers will remain at the school and within the area to provide a visible presence and community reassurance,” police chief inspector Jon Shilvock said.

The incident comes amid renewed efforts by the UK government to tackle rising knife crime involving young people and tighten restrictions on the sale of prohibited knives and machetes, including through online marketplaces.

In February, a 13-year-old boy was arrested and charged after two students were allegedly stabbed at a school in London.
