New Bayern Munich forward, Luis Diaz, has revealed that a conversation with Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz played a key role in his decision to join the German champions.
Diaz, who officially completed his £65.5 million switch from Liverpool on Wednesday, said he spent some time with Wirtz, formerly of Bayer Leverkusen, during Liverpool’s preseason before the move materialised.
Interestingly, while Wirtz turned down a move to Bayern in favour of a Premier League adventure, he still encouraged Diaz to consider the Bundesliga giants.
“I was already familiar with the German league and know roughly what kind of football is played here,” Diaz told Bayern’s official website.
“But yes, I had the opportunity to speak with Florian. The league is different from the English one, but it’s also intense and physical. Football is also well played here, there are great teams, and the stadiums are always full.
“Florian also told me that the city is great and that I would really enjoy it here. He also wished me the best of luck. I’m very grateful to him.”
Diaz’s arrival adds flair to Bayern’s frontline as the club continues to reshape its squad ahead of the new Bundesliga campaign.
