Carlo Ancelotti has shed light on the pivotal match that marked the end of his tenure at Real Madrid last season.

The 65-year-old Italian tactician parted ways with the Spanish giants after enduring a rare campaign without silverware.

He has since embraced a new challenge in international football, taking the reins of the Brazilian national team.

Real Madrid have turned to former midfielder Xabi Alonso to lead them back to European dominance, entrusting him with the task of restoring the club’s former glory.

Speaking to Marca, Ancelotti opened up about the decision to leave, pinpointing the Champions League exit against Arsenal as the decisive moment.

Ancelotti said, “Results were not what we expected, and the team’s play wasn’t great either. It was time to do something.

“After the tie against Arsenal, we talked about it and decided. It was something we could see coming. The team wasn’t in good shape and we realised it was best for Real Madrid to look for change and for me to look at Brazil.”
