Why Betis lose Conference League final to Chelsea – Isco

Real Betis playmaker, Isco, has reflected on their Europa Conference League final loss to Chelsea, admitting the Spanish side failed to capitalize on their early dominance.

In Wednesday’s showdown in Poland, Betis struck first through Abde Ezzalzouli, but despite controlling much of the first half, they were unable to extend their lead.

The second half, however, saw Chelsea flip the script with an emphatic comeback. The Premier League side netted four times courtesy of Enzo Fernández, Nicolas Jackson, Jadon Sancho, and Moisés Caicedo to seal a 4-1 victory.

Speaking after the match, Isco expressed disappointment over Betis’ inability to press their advantage.

“We had a good first half where they barely had any chances,” Isco said.

“We had it close and we didn’t know how to take advantage of the score, something that has penalised us all season. In a European final, mistakes are very punishing.

“In the second half, they ran over us. It’s painful.”

The defeat brought an end to Betis’ European campaign with heartbreak, as they were left to rue missed chances and second-half lapses against a ruthless Chelsea side.
