W’Cup qualifiers: South Africa focused on beating S’Eagles, says Williams

Bafana Bafana skipper, Ronwen Williams, has declared that South Africa are determined to maintain control of their World Cup qualifying campaign when they face Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Bloemfontein on Tuesday, September 9.

South Africa lead Group C with 16 points from seven matches, while Nigeria sit third with 10 points.

A win at Toyota Stadium would keep Hugo Broos’ men firmly in charge of their qualification hopes.

Williams stressed that his side will not depend on other teams’ results, recalling past experiences when relying on external factors cost them dearly.

“The key is to finish the job ourselves. We don’t want to wait for favours or look at what other teams are doing,” the goalkeeper told Safa.net.

“We learnt from previous setbacks and have grown stronger as a unit. This time, we’re focused on doing things our own way.”

Kick-off is scheduled for 6pm local time (5pm Nigerian time).
