Wanted drug kingpin arrested 12 years after killing three NDLEA officers

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a notorious drug kingpin, Lekan Jimoh, also known as “Kanmo-Kanmo,” 12 years after he allegedly orchestrated the killing of three NDLEA officers in Ogun State.

Jimoh was apprehended on Friday, January 16, 2026, in Owode town, Ogun State, during a tactical intelligence-led operation. Authorities recovered 69 kilograms of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis, from his hideout.

NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, described the arrest as a major victory in the agency’s fight against organized crime.

He said, “Lekan Jimoh has been on our wanted list since June 15, 2014, when he mobilized armed thugs against our officers, resulting in the tragic death of three of our colleagues.

Justice delayed is not justice denied, and today, he finally faces the consequences of his crimes.”

The slain officers included Rabiu Usman Kazaure and two others whose lives were cut short in the line of duty.

Babafemi emphasized that the arrest is a testament to the agency’s long-term commitment to pursuing fugitives, saying, “You may run and hide for a season, but the long arm of the law will eventually find you.”

The arrest follows a series of NDLEA operations across Nigeria. In recent weeks, significant seizures were made in Edo, Abuja, Lagos, Enugu, Delta, Oyo, Kwara, and Jigawa states, with large quantities of cannabis, tramadol, codeine syrup, and other illicit drugs confiscated.

Babafemi also highlighted separate arrests in the Federal Capital Territory, where a 44-year-old woman, Yinka Agboola, was detained for selling cannabis products online.

He noted, “These operations demonstrate our ongoing commitment to dismantling drug networks that threaten the safety and well-being of our communities.”

The Chairman and CEO of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), commended officers nationwide for their efforts.

He described the arrest of Jimoh as a “triumph of justice” and a warning to all criminal networks that the agency will continue to pursue those who harm society.

Jimoh’s arrest closes a painful chapter in Nigeria’s fight against drug-related violence, particularly the 2014 attack that left three NDLEA officers dead.

The agency has vowed to sustain pressure on drug trafficking networks and ensure fugitives are brought to justice.
