Three members of Nigeria’s U-20 squad, Flying Eagles, have been named in the official Best XI of the recently concluded WAFU B U-20 Championship in Côte d’Ivoire.
Nigeria’s hopes of qualifying for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations ended in disappointment after the Flying Eagles suffered a 4-1 defeat to Burkina Faso in the final.
Despite the loss, Nigeria had three players recognised for their performances throughout the tournament.
The trio comprises forward Abdulmuiz Adeleke, who finished as the tournament’s leading scorer, midfielder Lucky Oraro and centre-back Alfred Odinaka.
The three Flying Eagles were included in the Best XI alongside five players from champions Burkina Faso, two representatives from Côte d’Ivoire and one player from Niger Republic.
The selections were made by the tournament’s Technical Study Group following an assessment of the players’ performances during the competition.
The recognition provides some consolation for Nigeria after the team missed out on qualification for the U-20 AFCON, which will be hosted by Ghana.
