A gesture of sportsmanship and solidarity was displayed on Wednesday when some members of Nigeria’s Super Falcons visited South Africa’s Gabriela Salgado, who is currently recovering in Casablanca following a serious injury.
Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade led the delegation, which included Ifeoma Onumonu, Ashleigh Plumptre, Michelle Alozie, and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, to the Mohamed VI Hospital in Casablanca, where Salgado is receiving treatment.
During their visit, the Super Falcons players presented Salgado with a signed Nigeria jersey.
The Banyana Banyana midfielder sustained an injury during the closing stages of South Africa’s 2-1 semi-final win over Nigeria on Tuesday night.
She was stretchered off the pitch and underwent successful surgery the following day. She remains under close medical observation.
According to reports, the 27-year-old is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the year.
In a show of unity and concern, the entire Banyana Banyana squad also paid Salgado a visit on Tuesday night once her condition had been stabilized.
