WAFCON: Super Falcons top Group B despite Algeria draw

1 Min Read

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations as Group B winners, following a goalless draw with Algeria in their final group-stage match in Morocco.

Chasing a record-extending 10th continental crown, the Falcons showed resilience and depth despite making eight changes to their starting XI, with head coach Justin Madugu rotating his squad for the tie.

Nigeria had earlier kicked off their WAFCON campaign with a penalty shootout triumph over Tunisia and followed up with a hard-fought 1-0 win against Botswana, courtesy of a late strike.

The draw was enough to see Nigeria finish atop the group with seven points.

Algeria settled for second with five points, while Botswana (3) and Tunisia (1) bowed out of the tournament.
