Nigeria’s Super Falcons have touched down in Rabat as they gear up for a highly anticipated 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final against tournament hosts, the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco.
The nine-time African champions made the trip on Wednesday, fresh off their hard-fought 2-1 semi-final triumph over South Africa’s Banyana Banyana on Tuesday night at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.
That win sealed their spot in the final and set the stage for a clash of titans on African football’s biggest stage.
Upon arrival in the Moroccan capital, the team, led by head coach Justine Madugu, is set to hold their first training session later today at the FUS Academie in Rabat.
The opening 15 minutes of the session will be accessible to the media, offering a glimpse into the squad’s preparations.
Another training session will be held behind closed doors at the same venue on Friday as final touches are made.
The Super Falcons are eyeing a record-extending 10th WAFCON crown, underlining their status as the most successful team in the competition’s history.
Their opponents, Morocco, are hoping to make history by clinching their first-ever WAFCON title.
The Atlas Lionesses edged past Ghana’s Black Queens 4-2 in a penalty shootout after their semi-final ended 1-1 after extra time.
The stage is now set for an electrifying final, which will take place at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat on Saturday.
