The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has intercepted a consignment of cocaine concealed inside phone chargers and allegedly destined for Saudi Arabia.
The NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, disclosed the development in a post on X on Sunday, noting that drug traffickers were increasingly using ordinary household items to conceal illicit substances.
According to him, the chargers appeared harmless but were found to contain cocaine after operatives subjected the consignment to scrutiny.
“On the surface value, these are phone chargers but @ndlea_nigeria officers won’t fall for that. Concealed in there are consignments of cocaine going to Saudi Arabia,” he said.
Babafemi also reiterated the agency’s warning to members of the public against accepting or transporting parcels and luggage for other people without first verifying their contents.
He said traffickers often exploit people’s willingness to assist with deliveries to move illicit drugs without raising suspicion.
“This is why we keep warning people not to help anyone deliver any parcel or luggage on their face value because of the desperation by traffickers,” Babafemi said.
The agency’s latest seizure highlights the various methods allegedly employed by drug traffickers to disguise illegal substances and evade detection during transportation.
