Super Eagles forward, Moses Simon, has acknowledged that he and his teammates anticipated a challenging clash against Jamaica in the Unity Cup 2025 final, held on Saturday.

Nigeria retained their Unity Cup crown after edging past Jamaica 5-4 on penalties, following a dramatic 2-2 draw in regulation time.

Simon, who led the Super Eagles as captain, gave Nigeria an early advantage by netting the opener just nine minutes into the contest, capitalizing on an assist from Cyriel Dessers.

The Nantes winger later stepped up confidently to convert his penalty during the shootout, as coach Eric Chelle’s side scored all five of their spot-kicks.

Samuel Chukwueze also found the back of the net, restoring Nigeria’s lead with the team’s second goal after Jamaica had pulled level.

Reflecting on the intense encounter after lifting the trophy, Simon stated, “We expected a tough game because they are a difficult side, they are very physical so the coach told us to be calm and we had a good result against them.”

He added, “Everyone is excited, everyone is glad of course it’s the first trophy with the new manager and I will say every trophy is a trophy and we cherish it and we will keep going.”

The Super Eagles will now shift focus to their upcoming international friendly against Russia, scheduled for next month.
