Former The Only Way is Essex star James Argent has received a suspended prison sentence following a gender violence offence involving his partner while on holiday in Spain.
The 37-year-old reality TV personality, widely known as “Arg,” was vacationing with Nicoline Artursson, a former Miss Sweden, in Mijas, near Malaga, when the incident occurred on 5 May.
According to court documents obtained by the BBC, Argent admitted to the offence and was handed a six-month prison term, suspended for two years.
He has also been barred from making any contact with Ms Artursson, 32, during this period. His representatives have yet to respond to requests for comment.
Argent, who gained fame as a key cast member on ITV’s Towie from 2010 to 2018, was taken into custody by Spanish authorities on the day of the incident. Police described the case as “an alleged crime of domestic violence.”
Later that same day, he appeared before the Court of Violence against Women in Fuengirola.
A spokesperson for Spain’s Ministry of Justice confirmed, “[Argent] acknowledges the facts and admits the penalty.” The official stated that the offence constituted “ill-treatment in the field of gender violence” and outlined that Argent is required to complete a rehabilitation course focused on gender violence as part of his sentence.
“The suspension would be lifted if [Argent] fails to comply with the measures imposed,” the spokesperson warned.
Ms Artursson, who was crowned Miss Sweden in 2011, works as a fashion model.
