As preparations intensify for the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile, Flying Eagles head coach, Aliyu Zubairu, has vowed to set in order the issues they experienced at the African Cup of Nattions, especially in attack.

Speaking on Tuesday during the Kwara SWAN Hard Talk event in Ilorin, Zubairu confirmed that reinforcements are coming.

“We’ll be inviting more players to bolster all departments. We must fix the issues we saw at the AFCON, especially our finishing,” he said.

Reflecting on the team’s performance at the recent U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, the coach admitted that the side struggled in front of goal, highlighting the need for improvement in attacking efficiency.

Zubairu believes that the inclusion of new players will add much-needed balance and depth to the current team setup.

“We will be inviting more players to strengthen all departments,” he reiterated.

He also stressed the importance of correcting the shortcomings observed during recent competitions.

Although the team fell just short of clinching the AFCON title, Zubairu commended the players for securing a World Cup berth, describing it as a major milestone in their journey.

The tactician also set his sights on surpassing the legacy of former Flying Eagles coach Samson Siasia, who guided Nigeria to a silver medal finish at the U20 World Cup in the Netherlands in 2005.

Additionally, Zubairu addressed the faltering campaign of El-Kanemi Warriors in the ongoing 2024/25 NPFL season, attributing their dip in form to the lack of synergy among mid-season recruits and the departure of two influential players to European clubs.
