The Anambra State Police Command has responded to Wednesday’s shooting incident in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area, which left two people dead and a security vehicle burnt.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that a Police-led security team successfully contained the violent outbreak at Oko in Orumba North and Ekwulobia flyover in Aguata LGA.

Ikenga revealed that security forces neutralized one gunman during the operation and recovered significant weapons, including one AK-47 rifle, one automatic pump-action gun, and four vehicles. The recovered vehicles include a red Toyota Camry (Reg No: ENU 58 SC), a custom-colored GLK Mercedes Benz (no registration), a golden Lexus 330 (Reg No: ENU 815 AP), and an ash Toyota Highlander (Reg No: GDD 517 RW).

He provided further details on the incident, stating, “The armed criminals shot indiscriminately under the Ekwulobia flyover. Consequently, in a swift response, the Joint Security Team engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel. Regrettably, the incident recorded the death of two unsuspecting members of the public and the burning of a brown Toyota Sienna vehicle belonging to the Anambra State Vigilante Group. The bodies of the deceased have been recovered and deposited in the morgue.”

Ikenga also confirmed an attack on the Oko Divisional Police Headquarters but noted that officers successfully repelled the assault. No police casualties were reported, and security forces continue aggressive pursuit operations in the area.

The Police Spokesman assured residents that adequate security measures have been implemented under the directive of Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu. He urged the public to remain calm, emphasizing that efforts to ensure safety across the state remain ongoing.
