The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two men suspected of being behind the abduction and murder of a female banker in Onitsha, even after her family paid a ransom of ₦14 million.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that the suspects — 32-year-old Monday Egbe and 28-year-old Kenneth Nnoga — were apprehended on May 28, 2025, in a neighbouring state following intelligence-led investigations.
The late banker, identified as Ifeoma, was kidnapped on January 13, 2025, in Onitsha. Despite the family complying with the ransom demand, she was not released. Her body was later found along Nnobi Road with her eyes blindfolded.
“Following painstaking efforts by our operatives, we were able to trace and apprehend two key suspects involved in the heinous crime,” Ikenga said. “Their arrest is a significant step towards unmasking the entire syndicate responsible for the kidnap and murder.”
He noted that the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation, with the aim of uncovering the full details of the gang’s operations and locating other members still at large.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims and their families,” the statement added. “We will leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice.”
The arrest has sparked renewed calls for improved security and quicker responses to kidnapping cases in the region, especially as Onitsha remains a major commercial hub in the Southeast.
Police say investigations are ongoing, and more arrests are expected in the coming days.
