The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects found with human body parts in Okpokwu Local Government Area of the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Emenari Ifeanyi, disclosed this during a press briefing on Thursday in Makurdi.
According to him, the suspects were apprehended on October 22 by personnel of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard before being handed over to the police for further investigation.
“The suspects were arrested for being in possession of a human head, a lap, and a heart,” the CP said.
“After a thorough investigation, they have been charged to court to face prosecution.”
Ifeanyi also revealed that the command intensified security operations across the state between mid-September and the end of October, leading to the arrest of 181 suspects linked to crimes such as armed robbery, banditry, cultism, culpable homicide, kidnapping, and illegal possession of firearms.
During the period under review, the police recorded 14 homicide cases, 12 armed robbery incidents, four kidnapping cases, and 16 banditry and terrorism-related attacks. Three cult-related incidents were also documented.
He further disclosed that 15 firearms and 67 rounds of ammunition were recovered, while 23 kidnap victims were rescued. Additionally, three stolen vehicles were retrieved.
The commissioner noted that coordinated security operations in the Sankera axis—covering Katsina-Ala, Ukum, and Logo LGAs—led to the arrest of over 70 individuals linked to banditry.
“These clearance operations disrupted criminal networks, destroyed camps, and enabled many displaced residents to return to their homes and farmlands,” he stated.
He also reported that raids carried out on October 25 in Otukpo and Ohimini LGAs resulted in the arrest of 39 suspected armed robbers believed to be connected to previous attacks on security personnel.
Ifeanyi commended the synergy among security outfits in the state, particularly Operation Whirl Stroke and the Civil Protection Guards, while noting that 445 officers and men of the command were recently promoted.
Meanwhile, the command says it is investigating fresh attacks that reportedly claimed several lives in Ado and Ohimini LGAs earlier in the week.
“The command is on top of the situation and investigation is ongoing,” the Police Public Relations Officer, Udeme Edet, assured.
Investigations continue into the incidents.
