Troops strike terrorist strongholds in Kogi

Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have achieved a significant operational victory under Operation IGBO IDANU I, delivering a decisive strike against a notorious terrorist network linked to Kachalla Ibrahim and Shu’aibu in Kogi State.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Nigerian Army highlighted that the troops, navigating dense forests, challenging terrain, and numerous riverine obstacles, exhibited remarkable resilience, professionalism, and tactical discipline.

The statement praised the soldiers for the successful mission, noting that “despite severe movement constraints caused by fallen trees and marshy ground, the force pressed forward with determination,” demonstrating the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to dismantling terrorist strongholds and restoring lasting security in the region.

The operation, personally led by Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, Commander of 12 Brigade, saw troops dismounting and advancing on foot to achieve tactical surprise and operational dominance.

“This bold manoeuvre enabled the force to penetrate deep into the terrorist enclave, resulting in the complete overrun of the camp,” the statement said.

“Although the terrorists fled on sighting the advancing troops, a thorough exploitation of the objective led to the recovery of significant quantities of arms and ammunition, including eight boxes of 7.62 x 54 link ammunition containing bandolier of 250 rounds each and one box of high-velocity grenades.”

According to the Nigerian Army, these recoveries have severely weakened the terrorists’ operational capacity and logistics infrastructure.

Following the successful clearance, the terrorist camp was systematically destroyed and set ablaze to prevent any chance of reoccupation.

The Army added that troops have continued aggressive patrols and sustained offensive operations in the area to exploit the success, disrupt fleeing elements, and prevent regrouping.

“This operation sends a clear and resounding message to terrorist elements that their hideouts will continually be identified and neutralised, reaffirming the firm commitment of the Nigerian Army to safeguarding lives, protecting communities and ensuring lasting peace and security across the region,” the statement read.

In related developments, troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI have killed at least 16 ISWAP terrorists in Borno State.

Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, OPHK Media Information Officer, said in a statement on Tuesday that the troops once again displayed exceptional resolve and operational superiority by repelling an ISWAP attack and launching a decisive follow-on counter-offensive.

“This decisive action,” Uba said, “has significantly degraded terrorist capabilities, disrupted their logistics, and reaffirmed OPHK’s unwavering commitment to dismantling terrorist networks across the North East region.”

He explained that “on 5 February 2026, at approximately some minutes to midnight, ISWAP terrorists conducted a failed attack on Forward Operating Base (FOB) Auno. Troops of Sector 1 thwarted the assault with disciplined firepower and tactical precision.”

“Capitalising on this success, on 9 February 2026, troops, in synergy with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), launched a bold counter-offensive along the Komala axis in Konduga LGA. The troops engaged the retreating terrorists up to the Gidan Kaji axis, neutralising sixteen (16) terrorists, forcing scores to flee in disarray with severe injuries.”

Troops also recovered over 20 bicycles, a large stock of logistics items, weapons, and other supplies vital to terrorist operations.

In another blow to ISWAP logistics, troops apprehended suspected suppliers transporting a substantial quantity of drugs intended for terrorists along the Bukarti axis on the same day.

Furthermore, in response to a distress call along the Chibok-Damboa axis on 9 February 2026, troops successfully rescued nine kidnapped victims.

Uba noted that these operations underscore OPHK’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian efforts and the protection of civilians.
