The Defence Headquarters has reported that Nigerian Armed Forces troops killed several terrorists, apprehended 85 suspects, and rescued 66 kidnap victims across the country in August.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, provided the update while briefing journalists on Thursday in Abuja about ongoing military operations.
In the North East, troops participating in Operation Hadin Kai successfully eliminated numerous Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters.
They also arrested 15 suspects, including 13 collaborators, a gunrunner, and a drug peddler, while rescuing 8 kidnapped victims.
Troops in the North West carried out operations in Zamfara, Sokoto, Kaduna, Kebbi, and Katsina States, neutralizing terrorists, apprehending 23 suspects, and rescuing 24 individuals held hostage.
“In the North Central, troops of Operation Enduring Peace killed terrorists, arrested 7 criminals and rescued 2 kidnap victims. Another suspect was caught with N3 million ransom cash in Bassa LGA,” Kangye said.
Meanwhile, Operation Whirl Stroke in Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba, Kogi, and the FCT resulted in the arrest of nine extremists and the rescue of 13 hostages.
Kangye added that joint operations across all regions led to the recovery of large quantities of arms, ammunition, vehicles, motorcycles, and explosives.
“During the month under review, troops have continued to intensify joint operations aimed at neutralizing threats to national security, restoring stability, and safeguarding the lives and property of citizens,” he concluded.
