Troops kill 16 suspected terrorists, rescue 11 in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have eliminated 16 insurgents, freed 11 kidnapped victims, and arrested suspected drug couriers supplying terrorists in Borno State.

The development was confirmed on Wednesday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Northeast Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Sanni Uba, in an official statement.

According to him, the terrorists were neutralised on February 9 when troops, working with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, carried out a counter-offensive along the Komala axis in Konduga Local Government Area.

The operation followed a failed ISWAP attack on a military base in Auno on February 5.

“Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI have once again demonstrated exceptional resolve and operational superiority by swiftly repelling an ISWAP attack, and launching a devastating follow-on counter-offensive,” Uba stated.

He noted that after pushing back the initial assault, the troops pursued the fleeing insurgents to the Gidan Kaji axis, where they “neutralising sixteen (16) terrorists, forcing scores to flee in disarray with severe injuries.”

During the operation, security forces recovered more than 20 bicycles, several weapons, and other supplies.

In a related operation the same day, troops intercepted suspected ISWAP logistics suppliers transporting a large quantity of drugs intended for the insurgents around the Bukarti axis.

Security forces also thwarted a kidnap attempt along the Buratai-Kamuya road, rescuing two victims, Mallam Idris Adamu and Mallam Muhammadu Safiyanu, who were later reunited with their families.

Furthermore, troops responded to a distress call along the Chibok-Damboa axis, where they rescued nine abducted persons.

Uba said the successful operations highlight Operation Hadin Kai’s resolve to safeguard civilians and support humanitarian activities across the Northeast.
