Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised a notorious bandit kingpin, Danbokklo, during a fierce exchange of gunfire in Sokoto State.
Military sources confirmed that the operation took place on Monday following an intelligence-led offensive targeting criminal hideouts in the region.
Danbokklo, who was known for orchestrating a series of deadly attacks and kidnappings across the northwestern corridor, was reportedly killed after resisting arrest.
“This is a significant breakthrough for us,” a senior military officer involved in the operation said.
“Danbokklo had long been on our watchlist for crimes ranging from armed robbery to mass abductions. He met his end in a confrontation with our gallant troops.”
According to the source, the operation was carried out under the ongoing clearance missions aimed at flushing out criminal elements terrorising communities in Sokoto and neighbouring states. Weapons, ammunition, and motorcycles believed to have been used for raids were recovered from the scene.
Residents of the affected area expressed relief over the development, describing Danbokklo’s death as “long overdue.”
“For years, we lived in fear,” one local community leader, who requested anonymity, told reporters. “We thank the military for taking action. We hope this will restore peace to our villages.”
The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to ending banditry and restoring stability to the region.
“We will not relent until every criminal element is brought to justice,” said a spokesperson for the Army. “The safety and security of law-abiding citizens remain our top priority.”
Danbokklo’s elimination marks a major milestone in the military’s fight against banditry in Nigeria’s northwest.
