Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has characterized the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress as a party dominated by political sprinters rather than strategic thinkers.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time program on Tuesday, Lamido clarified that despite attending ADC’s July launch, he remains committed to the Peoples Democratic Party, stating, “I can’t leave a big party for a small one.”
The former governor’s remarks come amid heightened political maneuvering, particularly following Peter Obi’s recent pledge to serve only one term if elected president. Lamido specifically cautioned ADC presidential aspirants, including former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi who declared his 2027 ambition shortly after the party’s inauguration, to adopt more measured approaches. While former Vice President Atiku Abubakar hasn’t formally declared his 2027 intentions, speculation about his potential candidacy persists.
Lamido urged the opposition to prioritize strategic groundwork over premature campaigns: “Let them look inward and keep connecting with people quietly so that by the time they come out in full force the energy will be there. I think there are too much rushing, there are too many sprinters there, they should slow down and look at issues in a deeper way…so that they will be able to remove this cancer called APC.”
