World record holder Tobi Amusan put on an impressive display at the 2025 Paris Diamond League on Friday, clocking a season-best 12.24 seconds in the women’s 100m hurdles to secure second place.
The time stands as the Nigerian hurdler’s second-fastest ever, just behind her world record of 12.12 seconds set in 2022.
The race developed into a thrilling battle as Amusan closed strongly in the final stretch, nearly catching USA’s Grace Stark who had blasted out of the blocks. Stark claimed victory with a lifetime best and meet record of 12.21 seconds, making her the fifth-fastest woman in history over the distance. Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent completed the top three with a time of 12.30 seconds.
Amusan’s Paris performance continues her strong resurgence in the 2025 season. After opening with fourth-place finishes in Xiamen (12.74s) and Shaoxing (12.66s), she bounced back powerfully to win the Rabat Diamond League in 12.45 seconds, which was then her season best and a meet record.
The Paris meet marked Amusan’s fourth Diamond League appearance this year, demonstrating the consistency that suggests she’s approaching peak form ahead of major championships. She faced a loaded field that included former world silver medalist Keni Harrison, Jamaican rising star Ackera Nugent, Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska, Dutch champion Nadine Visser, Bahamian Devynne Charlton, and current Diamond League leader Grace Stark.
Despite the elite competition, Amusan showcased her trademark strong finish and championship experience, earning valuable points toward qualification for the Diamond League Finals in Zurich. She currently sits fourth in the standings with 10 points, behind Stark (23 points), Danielle Williams (15 points), and Marione Fourie (12 points).
