President Bola Tinubu will depart Nigeria on Saturday, June 28, 2025, for a two-nation official visit to Saint Lucia and Brazil, according to a statement issued on Friday by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga.

In Saint Lucia, President Tinubu is scheduled to hold meetings with Governor-General Cyril Errol Melchiades Charles and Prime Minister Philip Pierre. He will also deliver an address at a joint session of the island nation’s Senate and House of Assembly, to be held at the William Jefferson Clinton Ballroom, Sandals Grande, in Gros Islet.

The President’s itinerary includes a high-level luncheon with leaders of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, where discussions will centre on economic partnerships and cultural solidarity.

Additionally, Tinubu will visit the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in Castries to promote educational exchange programmes between Nigeria and the Caribbean nation.

The presidential statement read: “President Tinubu’s visit underscores Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic relations with Caribbean states, especially within the African Union’s Sixth Region framework, which recognises the African diaspora as an essential partner in the continent’s development. Nigeria and Saint Lucia share ties through membership in international organisations such as the United Nations and the Commonwealth of Nations, and they have a common heritage rooted in African ancestry. The visit is expected to open new pathways for infrastructure development, educational cooperation, youth empowerment, and diplomatic exchange.”

Following his engagements in Saint Lucia, President Tinubu will proceed to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he will participate in the 17th BRICS Summit scheduled for July 6 to 7. The President’s attendance comes at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Nigeria currently holds “partner country” status in the BRICS group, marking an elevation from its previous role as a guest nation. South Africa, Egypt, and Ethiopia are Africa’s full BRICS members.

This year’s summit will focus on the theme “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance,” with particular emphasis on social, economic, and environmental development.

President Tinubu will be accompanied on the trip by a delegation of senior government officials.
