President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate arrest of those responsible for the recent deadly attack in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, which left over 100 people dead.

Speaking on Wednesday during a town hall meeting with political leaders in the state, Tinubu tasked the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, with hunting down the culprits.

“Christopher… We need to get our ears to the ground. Let’s get those criminals. Let’s get them out,” the president charged, referring to the massacre that occurred last Friday.

The President’s visit comes in the wake of heightened violence in Benue, where attacks by suspected armed herders have claimed numerous lives in recent months.

In a conversation with Governor Hyacinth Alia during the meeting, Tinubu remarked, “Your political enemies don’t want you to succeed…Are you just realising that?”

He also emphasized the need for collective regional leadership in the quest for peace, urging stakeholders to unite and develop a strategy.

“We cannot do without another. I will want us to create a leadership committee now to meet in Abuja to fashion out a strategy for lasting peace. And I am ready to invest in that peace,” Tinubu said.

Before the town hall, the president visited survivors of the attack who are receiving treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital.

He was welcomed in the state by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, alongside Governor Alia.
