Tinubu names new governing councils for varsities

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of new members to the governing councils of three prominent federal universities in Nigeria, University of Abuja,, University of Nigeria, Nsukka and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

The announcement was made through a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

This development comes months after President Tinubu, in February, dissolved the governing council of UNIABUJA and dismissed its vice-chancellor, Aisha Maikudi, following disputes regarding her qualifications.

The newly constituted governing council for the University of Abuja includes:

1. Rosemary Egonmwan – representing the South South

2. Adedeji Adefuye – representing the South West

3. Sarki Abdulkadir – representing the North West

4. Aminu Dukku – representing the North East

In addition, vacancies have also been filled in the governing councils of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

Appointees to the UNN council are:

1. Ogbonna Odo – South East

2. Muhammad Tahir – North West

 

For NAU, the newly named governing council members are:

1. Nkem Okeke – South East

2. Ofoke Ugbala – South East

3. Amina Yakowa – North West

4. Nojeeb Agunbiade – South West

The appointments are part of the federal government’s continued efforts to strengthen leadership and oversight in Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
