President Bola Tinubu has appointed Muhammad Babangida, the 53-year-old son of former military leader General Ibrahim Babangida, as chairman of the revamped Bank of Agriculture.
The announcement was made in a State House press release on Thursday, which also listed seven other new appointments to key government agencies.
Muhammad Babangida holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s in Public Relations and Business Communication from the European University in Montreux, Switzerland. He also completed an executive program in Corporate Governance at Harvard Business School in 2002.
Among other notable appointments, President Tinubu named Tomi Somefun, from Oyo State, as Managing Director of the National Hydro-Electric Power Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC). The commission oversees 10 states, including Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, Kebbi, Plateau, Taraba, Gombe, Kaduna, and Nasarawa—expanded after the 2023 Electricity Act was signed into law.
Other appointees include Lydia Kalat Musa (Kaduna State) as Chairman of the Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority (OGFZA), Jamilu Wada Aliyu (Kano State) as Chairman of the National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), and Hon. Yahuza Ado Inuwa (Kano State) as Chairman of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).
Additional appointments are Sanusi Musa (SAN, Kano State) as Chairman of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Prof. Al-Mustapha Alhaji Aliyu (Sokoto State) as Director-General of the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA), Sanusi Garba Rikiji (Zamfara State) as Director-General of the Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations (NOTN), and Dr. Abdulmumini Mohammed Aminu-Zaria (Kaduna State) as Executive Director of the Nigerian Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC).
