President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday received the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, and his wife, Abiwumi Owoade, at the State House in Abuja. The visit served as a platform for dialogue on strengthening the relationship between the federal government and traditional institutions.
Also present at the meeting were key government officials, including the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, accompanied the Alaafin’s delegation.
Discussions during the meeting reportedly focused on enhancing cultural collaboration and fostering socio-economic development, particularly in Oyo State and the Southwest region.
President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance that respects Nigeria’s cultural heritage.
“We recognise the invaluable role of our traditional leaders in uniting the people and promoting development. Our doors remain open for collaboration that drives growth,” the president was quoted as saying.
Oba Owoade, in his remarks, appreciated the President’s recognition of traditional institutions and pledged the support of Yoruba monarchs towards national unity and progress.
“The traditional institution is the closest to the grassroots. We are committed to supporting your developmental goals and fostering peace across our domains,” the Alaafin stated.
Photographs released after the meeting showed the president and the royal delegation in a cordial atmosphere, reflecting the symbolic unity between Nigeria’s modern political leadership and its longstanding cultural institutions.
