President Bola Tinubu meets Security Chiefs

President Bola Tinubu is currently in a closed-door meeting with Nigeria’s top security officials at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The high-level security council meeting comes ahead of the President’s scheduled trip to Rome on Saturday, where he will attend the inauguration mass of Pope Leo XIV at the invitation of the Vatican.

In attendance at the security meeting are Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla; Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

While the specific agenda has not been made public, the discussions are expected to focus on the recent surge in security challenges across Nigeria. The service chiefs are anticipated to brief the President on ongoing efforts to address the deteriorating security situation in various regions of the country.

This crucial security meeting follows recent attacks and rising criminal activities in several states, including kidnappings, banditry, and communal clashes. The engagement provides an opportunity for security chiefs to present their strategies and receive presidential directives before Tinubu’s international trip.

The President’s visit to Rome for the papal inauguration comes at a critical time when Nigeria faces mounting security concerns. The outcomes of today’s meeting may shape security operations during the President’s absence from the country.

No official statement has been released regarding the duration of the meeting or whether new security measures will be announced afterward.
