President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday engaged in a series of high-level consultations at the State House, Abuja, including a closed-door meeting with the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Dr. Zacch Adedeji.

The presidential engagement followed Friday’s controversial sealing of a FIRS office in Abuja by the Federal Capital Territory Administration over alleged non-remittance of 25 years’ ground rent.

The action, ordered by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, triggered a strong reaction from the revenue agency.

In an official statement, FIRS condemned the office closure as “malicious” and “unprofessional,” accusing the FCTA of employing heavy-handed tactics in an intergovernmental matter.

While the presidency has maintained official silence on the dispute, presidential sources revealed the Tinubu-Adedeji meeting focused on resolving tensions and strengthening inter-agency collaboration to safeguard national revenue interests.

The President’s packed schedule also included separate deliberations with key economic team members: Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake; Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu

In a separate engagement, President Tinubu received Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, and the Managing Director/CEO of the South East Development Commission, Mark Okoye II.

The SEDC chief recently unveiled ambitious plans to grow the South East economy to $200 billion by 2035, a regional development blueprint aligned with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Nigeria’s aspiration to achieve a $1 trillion national GDP.
