Tinubu decorates Tunji Disu as acting IGP

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday formally decorated Tunji Disu with the rank of Acting Inspector-General of Police at the State House, Abuja.

The ceremony took place at around 4 p.m. in the President’s office, marking the official assumption of one of the nation’s most crucial security positions.

The event was attended by top government and security officials, including the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; and the immediate past IGP, Kayode Egbetokun.

Disu’s appointment comes just 48 days before his scheduled retirement on April 13, 2026, the date he would reach the mandatory retirement age of 60.

However, under the amended Police Act, which now allows Inspectors-General of Police a fixed four-year tenure regardless of age, he is eligible to serve until 2030.

During the ceremony, President Tinubu pinned the new insignia on Disu’s uniform and used the occasion to commend Egbetokun for his service to the nation.

Egbetokun had submitted his resignation letter to the President on Tuesday, citing personal and family matters that require his full attention.

The smooth transition highlights the government’s focus on continuity and stability in Nigeria’s top police leadership, ensuring that the force remains guided by experience and professionalism during the changeover.
