Tinubu accepts Chinese president’s state visit invitation

President Bola Tinubu has accepted an invitation from the Chinese President Xi Jinping for a state visit to China in September.

 

The invitation was delivered by China’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chen Xiaodong, during a meeting at the Aso Villa on Thursday.

 

According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu has accepted the invitation. The statement read:

 

“President Tinubu has accepted an invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping for a state visit to China in September… He expressed hope that the visit will enhance Nigeria-China bilateral relations and advance the proposed currency swap agreement.”

 

The statement also noted that President Xi Jinping would welcome First Lady Remi Tinubu during the visit, as stated by Chen Xiaodong: “Chen, who came with a large entourage, said President Xi would also welcome First Lady Remi Tinubu during the visit.”

 

The visit is expected to strengthen the relationship between Nigeria and China, with potential benefits for both nations.
