Tragedy struck on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway on Wednesday morning as a multiple-vehicle crash claimed three lives and left six others injured.

According to the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, the accident occurred around 7:45 a.m. and involved five vehicles.

TRACE’s South-West Area Commander, Mr. Adekunle Ajibade, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria in Ota.

Ajibade explained that the crash was triggered when a cement truck, reportedly without a registration number, experienced brake failure.

The truck, which was heading toward the tollgate from Sango Ota, lost control due to its high speed and plowed into four other vehicles.

He noted that six people sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Ifo General Hospital, Ogun, where the bodies of the deceased have also been deposited.

“The corpses of the victims have been deposited at Ifo General Hospital, Ogun, while the survivors are also receiving treatment in the same hospital.

“Motorists should always ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before putting them on the road.

“Drivers should also stop excessive speed and reckless driving to prevent unnecessary loss of lives,” he said.

To restore normalcy, Ajibade added that all the affected vehicles had been cleared from the expressway to allow for the smooth flow of traffic.
